Why I started Between Patients
“I did not want to interview practice owners. I wanted to have the conversation we usually only have once the door is closed.”
I grew up inside dentistry. Four generations of it — it starts with my grandfather, Dr. Muhammad Saleem Akhter, who founded and ran Makkah Dental Clinic in Lahore from 1993 to 2018. The waiting room, the late nights, the weight of running a practice: it was the background noise of my whole childhood.
So when I talk to a practice owner, I am not an interviewer reading a brief off a card. I am the fourth generation of a dental family, sitting across from someone who has built something. That changes the questions I ask, and it changes the answers people are willing to give.
Between Patients is where those answers live. Thirty minutes, no script, full editorial control for the guest — and a real record of how the people who actually run the practices think, decide, and rebuild.
Fourth generation in a family of dental practice owners.
